Marina Del Rey, CA – June 24, 2011- Following a successful showcase of its 2011 lineup at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, Ignition Games today announced a renewed commitment to expanding its publishing pipeline by opening a new North American headquarters in Marina Del Rey, CA.
From this new office, Ignition Games will execute the hotly anticipated July 26th launch (USA) of El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron, the award-winning new adventure game developed by the legendary Japanese artist Sawaki Takeyasu (Devil May Cry, Okami). With its unbridled creativity and genre-defying approach to level design, this title garnered many accolades at E3, including “Best of E3” nominations from Game Informer Magazine, 1up.com, and G4 TV, as well as the coveted “Honey Badger” award for fearless artistry from Examiner.com. El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron will be released for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system.
Many of the other new titles revealed by Ignition Games at E3 demonstrate the importance of working closely with talented independent developers to bring innovative new games to a variety of formats. Hordes of eager hardcore gamers viewed the announcement of Vanillaware Ltd.’s gorgeous hand-drawn multiplayer action-RPG Dragon’s Crown for PlayStation®3 and new PlayStation®Vita handheld console during Sony Computer Entertainment’s E3 Press Conference, and a deluge of interest (and fan art) quickly followed. Meanwhile, the acquisition of Denki’s brilliant word game Quarrel signals a serious pledge to publish top-quality casual games that can flourish on a wide variety of devices. Quarrel will first release on iOS devices, but look for this insidiously addictive puzzler to propagate to many platforms over the coming months. In 2012, Nintendo’s eye-catching new 3DS handheld will also be greeted with two Ignition
Games offerings: Texas-based Renegade Kid’s Planet Crashers 3D and Endgame Studios’ Fractured Soul 3D. Ignition Games will continue to announce more exciting new products and initiatives, including a partnership with Black Bean Games to publish several titles that take advantage of the new motion-control devices, including National Geographic Challenge!. In order to facilitate shifting the publishing focus to more effectively work with innovative independent developers and explore new platform possibilities, Ignition Games has taken the strategic decision not to continue with internal development of games.
