Ubi Soft Entertainment are pleased to announce the release date for the eagerly awaited World War 2 flight simulator IL2 – Sturmovik. Originally slated for release in summer 2001, additional fine-tuning of the single and multiplayer aspects of the game mean that IL2 will be leaving its development hanger for a release in November 2001.
Early screenshots and demonstrations of IL2 – Sturmovik have left the gaming community stunned at the enormous detail that has gone into the simulation. The November release date will allow developers Maddox Games extra development time to add even more polish to the game, and also to incorporate feedback from the 300 budding pilots that have successfully applied for beta testing. Ubi Soft Entertainment is planning to release the demo for the game in September, so that gamers can get a full taste of the game in advance of the final release.
Commenting on the revised release date was Ubi Soft Brand Manager for IL2, Vincent Munoz: “Ubi Soft are delighted with the game, and at the interest already shown in IL2. And whilst gamers must wait a little longer, a November release allows us and the developers at Maddox Games time to ensure that the final game is even better and becomes a benchmark title in the genre.”
The IL2 “Sturmovik” was a mass-produced Russian ground-attack aircraft, which played an instrumental part in Germany’s failed Eastern Front campaign. Nicknamed the “Black Death” by the German Army, and “The Flying Tank” by Russian troops, the IL2 was as equally efficient in attacking tanks, railways and bridges as it was in shooting Luftwaffe planes from the sky.
Outfitted with a payload of outstanding features, immense detail and a full range of single and multiplayer options, IL2 Sturmovik will set completely new standards of realism in the flight simulation genre. Players will be able to fly over 20 aircraft types (Soviet and German and American lend-lease) in single player campaigns and missions, and indulge in relentless multiplayer dogfights with up to 32 other players. The level of detail is simply breathtaking – land features and cloud formations are intricately textured, spent cartridges fly from blazing guns, radio chatter fills the cockpit and tank battles will rage on beneath you.
At this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles (17-19 May), Oleg Maddox, the Producer of IL2 Sturmovik will be in the gaming cockpit to display this latest evolution in military flight simulators to the world’s gaming press.
