REDWOOD CITY, CA (March 21, 2001) - The 3DO Company (Nasdaq: THDO) today announced that the Warriors of Might and Magic game for PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system has shipped to retail outlets throughout North America.
The Warriors of Might and Magic game puts the player in a third person, combat-oriented game as a hero fighting forces allied against him. The action is intense, the graphics takes full advantage of the capabilities of this new platform, and the story propels the player from one furious level to the next.
Several features of the game are made possible only by the advanced hardware of the PlayStation 2, including anti-aliasing, dynamic lighting, volumetric fog, larger and smoother particle-based spell effects, and an enhanced particle system which allows complex motions with items such as explosions, flowing water, and lava.
An innovative combat system keeps the action moving throughout the game, with complex enemy AI pathing to provide more realistic character movement within the world. Players need to stay on their toes because enemies will figure out their favorite moves and adjust accordingly!
The Warriors of Might and Magic game takes place in Ardon, a land ravaged by war. Accusations of witchcraft and Necromancy abound, condemning people to exile, death from stoning, or worse: to be flung into a pit of demonic creatures. Our hero Alleron becomes one such accused and sets out to prove his innocence. Through the game, a darker and more sinister plot is revealed: an ancient and evil god is being released upon the world. This deity is bent upon the total destruction of humanity to satisfy its unquenchable appetite for flesh and souls. Alleron must find those responsible for its release and procure the tools to re-imprison it before it is too late.
The game received a Gold Award in the April issue of PSE2 magazine. Editor-in-chief Greg Off says, "3DO has delivered a high-quality, deep and engaging action/adventure that shouldn't be missed."
