Greenberg: Xbox 360 Won't Get Web Browser
Apparently Xbox 360s are only for use in the living room. That's the latest golden nugget from Microsoft's Xbox product director Aaron Greenberg, who told Edge that the Xbox 360 will never have a web browser because it would provide a "poor experience."

Sayeth Greenberg, "We really believe that the web browsing experience on TV is a poor one, and the real magic is to take those web experiences and optimise them for the living room. That's what we did with Netflix. So, sure, you can go on the PS3 and go to Facebook and and try to navigate, but it's an absolute nightmare."

So, no Natal-based web browsing? SPOnG "is disappoint".

Greenberg engaged in his favourite past-time of taking jabs at the PS3, adding "No disrespect, there's things I love about the PS3, but that's not one of them. We want the online experience to be fun and optimised for the living room, and we'll continue to add more applications to get more richness."

...Going forward?

I've never had a problem with navigating around websites on my PS3. MS just want to tye you down to their partners and not let you have acces to the internet.

Navigation isn't a big issue. If you're using a console browser for the right things (YouTube, Flash games, etc.) then you're in the money, especially if you don't have handy access to a PC, or if you want to waste a couple of minutes between games.

I've used the Wii's Opera browser to check my Lotto numbers without moving from the sofa. If this isn't an "optimized living room experience" I'm not sure what is. ;)
