Created by Italian comic book author Alfredo Castelli, Martin Mystere is The detective of the impossible a rich American University professor who uncovers the truth behind paranormal mysteries. Versed in anthropology and archaeology, a man with a Neanderthal friend and possessing the gift of the third eye, picked up in a Tibetan monastery, the impressive and cultured Martin Mystere is these days the subject of a TV cartoon series as well.
This has prompted a game version of the Italian creation published by GMX Media. Rather refreshingly though, rather than some watered down 3D platform adventure, the game, rather appropriately, appears in the form of a once popular but too-much neglected genre: that of the 3D point-and-click adventure, in the style of Day of the Tentacle and Discworld.
An M.I.T. researcher, Prof Eulemberg is found dead in his laboratory. At the same time, a stinking old tramp claims to be none other than Martin Mystere. What the devil is going on? Has somebody got control of a machine that can change the very destiny of the world? Exploring the themes of immortality and the quest to reverse the ageing process, immerse yourself in the mysterious, and often hilarious, world of Martin Mystere. A full 3D environment sympathetically recreates the world of the comic strip and cartoon. A strong, and of course paranormally inclined, storyline is backed up with cinematographic direction and full Dolby Digital surround sound and music. Martin Mystere looks to be that rare thing in games not only an interesting choice of license to make into a game, but also a game that is intriguing on its own merits.
