Summary

Sequel to Microsoft's 2002 original RalliSport Challenge, the predictably named RalliSport Challenge 2 improves greatly on what its predecessor has to offer by incorporating a selection of unique rally sports, 40 renowned rally cars, more tracks and more intense competition.

On paper, it's a standard formula for a racing sequel, but there's more to RS2 than meets the eye. Under the bonnet lies a technically accomplished game that manages to focus heavily on both arcade gameplay and realism. A new game engine ensures the visuals of Microsoft's latest offering are up to scratch, and thanks to a broad range of racing environments, weather conditions are now even more varied, incorporating rain, snow and fog. Players can also make minor modifications to their engines in order to suit the needs of the race at hand.

There are now five racing modes present that comprise of the usual tournaments and multi-player events, but more importantly, RS2 is Xbox Live enabled. Online play, particularly in the racing genre, virtually guarantees the longevity of these games, with players able to take to the track against other human opponents any time, day or night. It's the way forward for the racing game, and will no doubt be embraced by genre fanatics.

All in all, RalliSport Challenge 2 is a comprehensive racer that, in the absence of a Gran Turismo for Xbox, will do nicely. It boasts solid gameplay, gorgeous visuals and is a pleasure to play.
