Summary

PC role-playing games, usually known to be more hardcore than their console counterparts, are often presented to their players in the form of an isometric scroller with pre-rendered backdrops and animated characters. It's a common approach that's been used for more than a decade, and it's still used today. On this occasion, we're talking about Oxygen Interactive's Spells of Gold.

Now, most of these games place most or all of their emphasis on battle systems and an epic plot-twisting story. But this isn't the case here. In Spells of Gold, items of monetary value and gold are paramount, and they will serve as your primary means to progress through this free-roaming adventure.

Playing the role of a master tradesman, you soon find yourself caught up in a messy battle of good versus evil, but with you'll be able to do little more than bribe. You must think of a way to put your funds to better use...

It just so happens that the vast world of Spells of Gold is home to a variety of freelance teachers and professors, who will help you in your quest to learn new skills and become a better person. Of course, they'll only do it for a fee... and that's where your trading skills come into play. By meeting and dealing with bandits, robbers, warlocks, the undead and even tax collectors, players will be able to increase size of their wallet in order to pay for new abilities and skills from your teachers.

And it's entirely up to you how progress is made. You can pretty much travel where you want, when you want via a series of portals, and players are also given the freedom to choose their skills. Players can opt to be a master of the sword, or they can perfect their magic skills. Whatever your chosen path, Spells of Gold promises to be an extensive and engrossing role-playing game that offers literally hundreds of hours of gameplay. Top stuff.
