Summary

One of the smartest things Nintendo ever did was bundling Wii Sports in with the Wii to show what the console could do. It took a little time, but the company has decided to follow up with Wii Sports Club to show what the follow-up Wii U can do.

As with previous games in the series, Wii Sports Club doesn't take itself too seriously. Similarly, the game follows its predecessors in handling much of the character movement for you. That leaves players to focus on the mechanics of their chosen sport, making use of the Wii U Gamepad and Wii Remote Plus.

In golf, players can place the Gamepad on the floor in order to see the golf ball they're about to swing for. The Wii Remote Plus, of course, takes the place of the club. In tennis players use the remote as a raquet and can play with up to three other players online in doubles. In bowling you can line up your shot without the need for a real lane, and an online league means there's always someone to bowl against. In baseball the remote once again comes into play as the bat, but now players can use the Gamepad to pitch in first-person mode. Or, if you need to get some aggression out of your system you can double up with a remote in each had and let fly with your best punches.
