Summary

Taking a previously sci-fi and horror-free game and throwing a horde of the undead into the mix is all the rage in games these days. Yakuza: Dead Souls (or 'Yakuza of the End' as it's forebodingly known in Japan) is SEGA's answer to the trend.

Dead Souls brings the action back to Kamurocho, the red light district of Tokyo, an area brimming with Yakuza. Gangsters aren't the only problem on the block any more, though. Now zombies are roaming the streets in a crisis that just keeps on escalating. Four characters take centre-stage, the oddly kind loan shark Shun Akiyama, bonkers pirate mobster Goro Majima, former Yakuza boss Ryuji Goda and star of the show Kazuma Kiryu.

Like previous games in the series, Dead Souls is an urban RPG. Because of the inclusion of zombies, however, gunplay is introduced to the franchise for the first time. You can't very well have a game full of zombies without guns to blow their brains out with, can you? Armed with everything from pistols to machine guns to rocket launchers you'll be turning your undead enemies into fine red mist in no time.

While you'll be spending a lot more time than usual fearing for your brain in Dead Souls, there's still plenty of that Yakuza magic spread around the place. Exploration, side-questing, a spot of golf or fishing and even the famous 'happy ending' massage parlour are all present and accounted for. You can also expect the usual top-notch translation, high quality writing and strong acting. Just watch out for those pesky flesh eaters!
