Summary

The third instalment in the Yakuza series almost never made it to Europe. Despite the first two games offering an exciting experience on the PlayStation 2, disappointing sales deterred Sega from localising Yakuza 3 on the PlayStation 3. Now, after what feels like an age of petitioning from fans, we are able to enjoy the next chapter in Kiryu Kazuma's story.

Offering English subtitles on top of a cast of high-brow Japanese celebrity voice acting, Yakuza 3 follows the Dragon of Dojima as he enjoys his retirement in the tropical island of Okinawa. With his adopted daughter Haruka, Kazuma runs an orphanage away from the concrete jungle of Kamuracho.

Unfortunately, the peaceful life does not last for the once-respected clan member, and he is forced to deal with unfinished business relating to his violent past. So begins another action-packed, story-driven adventure for the smartly-dressed hardman – better get flexing those fighting muscles.

As usual, your time will be spent in central Tokyo as well as Okinawa as more of the story unfolds. A lot of the time, you'll be challenged to fighting duels – involving you against a bunch of rival yakuza or even street thugs. Levelling up Kazuma and his abilities will give him a whole range of powerful attacks and finishers to execute – including stamping on an enemy's face with full force.

Yakuza 3 includes a bunch of mini-games to enjoy when you have a spare second too, including arcade games and fighting matches that will pit you against some of the best martial artists in the land.
