Olympic super-swimming-champion and multi-Gold medallist lends his name and expertise to this Kinect-optimised sports title for the Xbox 360.
The gamer must take the role of an up-and-coming swimmer in the invite only world of competitive racing as the game takes them all over the world in richly realised locations. The ultimate task is to beat Michael Phelps himself.
This tasks becomes less arduous when the great man himself takes time out to train and advise the player in their journey from beginner to legendary champion.
Every race and every hour of training will enable the player to customise their in-game character. In fact, with every race they will actually be able to see the characters physique change, for the better.
There is more than simply swimming to give that critical advantage though. As the gamer can improve their start-time reaction, their initial dive, they can even get the watching crowd yelling and enthusing. Of course the various strokes (including freestyle, backstroke, butterfly and breaststroke) must also be perfected as must the lap turn as racers compete over short course and long distance.
In Career Mode the gamer moves through a entire racing season, avoiding or meeting rivals before competing in the Annual Games. Character stats such as times made against rivals around the world can be posted on the Xbox Live Leaderboard.
Kinect owners can also use the voice activated power-ups during races as they race in environments including icy mountain range, Los Angeles, Perth in Australia and even inside a New York Skyscraper.
Multiplayer modes include three-player online, 1 v 1 split-screen local play and local team Party Relay multiplayer for up to eight players.
