Summary

Aion: Assault on Balaurea includes both the client disc for the original game and the Assault on Balaurea.

Aion takes massively multiplayer online role-playing games to a new level graphically. Based on the celebrated CryEngine - the 3D Engine behind the much admired Far Cry game, the game has won several award for its graphics. But while gorgeous graphics are certainly nice to have, it's the gameplay that really counts, and Aion has a proven track record, after being a major hit in Korea and China since it was released there in 2008. The game is a fantasy RPG that takes place on the two halves of Atreia - a planet torn asunder by an ancient cataclysm.

The game features all of the usual MMPORG fayre, but adds to it with a couple of unique (or at least unusual) features. The first of these is the inclusion of flight, both as a method of transport, but also as a means of combat. The second deals with combat directly - in Aion combat does not just occur between players, or between players and environmental (computer controlled) characters, but between all three simultaneously. In the Aion gameworld, Atreia, players choose to be one of either the elfin Elyos, or the bestial Asmodians. These two races inhabit either half of the former planet, but their isolation has spawned a bitter hatred between them. Regardless of race, players must also choose a class - Warrior, Scout, Mage or Priest. Warriors are powerful and tough, Scouts are fast and agile. Mages are magical, while Priests can heal and improve morale. Characters are highly customisable, as you might expect - but the game also features the "Stigma system" which enables characters to employ abilities not usually associated with their class.

Both the Elyos and the Amsodians must do battle with the Balaur, a monstrous race bent on the destruction of both races. Between the broken halves of their former planet lies the Abyss, another dimension where the Elyos and Asmodians have the power of flight, and it is here they contend their ancient battle for supremacy. Join the constant battle for control of the fortresses in the Abyss - each victory will reward you with power and bonuses that can be used to build your rank and improve your equipment.

With Assault on Balaurea you get eight new instances filled with challenges and rewards. There's a new pet system with little critters that are both functional and decorative. They can be taken across new zones with powerful monsters and oodles of content to enjoy. The expansion also lifts the level cap to 55, meaning there's more to gain! Plus, there are new enhancements to Aion's flight mechanics and Twitter integration!
