Summary

Leisure Suit Larry is one of the most venerable franchises in video gaming history. Created by Al Lowe back in the 1980s, the games followed the (mis)adventures of lovable loser Larry Laffer as he attempts to seduce lovely lay-dees. The original series, which has always been considered as slightly cheesy despite its continued popularity, ran out of steam in the nineties. But it was revived, without Lowe's involvement, in the 21st century in the form of Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude.

That game was developed by High Voltage Software and saw Larry's cousin - also called Larry (this time Lovage) - take over as the hero of the franchise. And as the name suggests, Magna Cum Laude saw Larry at college.

The 2009 arrival of the Leisure Suit Larry game Box Office Bust comes after it was dropped by Activision as they shuffled their deck during their 2008 merger with Vivendi. Britsoft favourites Codemasters have picked up the development mantle.

This latest adventure sees Larry Lovage working a summer job on his Uncle Larry's movie lot, Laffer Studios. While he's there, as well as fraternising with the lay-dees, Larry has to help uncover a mole from a rival studio that is stealing Larry's studio's secrets. After all, who would suspect a mailroom assistant of being a studio spy? Like Magna Cum Laude, Box Office Bust sees Larry roaming (and driving) freely around an open-world sandbox environment in search of action, adventure and romance.

Although Box Office Bust has an 18 rating, unlike the previous game, it does not feature any graphic nudity, though there is still a good deal of pneumatic cleavage on show in line with the title's pun.

The game features the voice talents of Josh Keaton (Spider-Man's Harry Osborn), Jay Mohr, Carmen Electra (Scary Movie) and Shannon Elizabeth (American Pie).
