Summary

Fear not! Eidos has not gone insane and decided to release the game of the woolly garment or knitting simulator. Nope, Jumper is a game based on the film of the book of the same name.

A Jumper, if you are curious, is someone who, through a genetic quirk, can teleport instantly to anywhere on the planet. They've been knocking around for centuries and for pretty much as long, a group called the Paladins has been intent on wiping them out. The game follows Griffin – played by Jamie Bell in the film - a battle-hardened Jumper out to (sharp intake of breath, please) avenge the death of his parents.

Gameplay is combat-based, centring around Griffin's jumping ability. The most common is the combat jump, which allows players to jump up close to an enemy and take advantage of their weak spots. The traversal jump, meanwhile, allows players to pick a point in the environment and get there in a jiffy. Last up, you've got the finisher jump, which allows players to jump to a completely new location and ditch their opponents there – be it at high altitude, on an icy tundra or a tank full of toothsome sharks.

For those gamers lamenting the fact that no one ever released a Billy Elliot game, this is as close as you're going to get. Jamie Bell, the actor behind Griffin and (in another time) young Billy, reprises his film role to voice the main character.

Imagine Jumper as a ‘round the world’ plane ticket without ever leaving your living room. Admittedly, it won't be quite the same, but it will be a darn sight cheaper.
