Summary

The Silent Hunter series is now synonymous with submarine simulators and the game is back in its third and most ambitious version, Silent Hunter 3. Experience the tension of life in an active WWII submarine.

A new crew command system has been implemented. You will have to consider the morale and fatigue levels of your submarine crew before giving them orders. A tutorial mode and scaleable control system also make this title less daunting to newcomers than sub games normally are. The custom setting will ensure that hardcore WWII fans are not left hungry for more, though. An all new graphical engine features, with jaw-dropping visuals, from the 3D water effects to day and night cycles, and with the actual subs of WWII lovingly modelled as exactly as they ever have been. And it’s a deadly array of U-boats that are on offer, with types II, VII, IX and XII all featured. Take out vital Allied convoys, and lurk in the depths releasing torpedoes, or surface and strafe the decks with automatic fire. Naturally, all the ships are strictly historically accurate too.

The game also contains a multiplayer mode, in which you can play both co-operatively and competitively, either forming a wolf pack with other sub commanders to take out AI opponents, or pitching themselves against each other in a battle of wits. Good news for fans of Das Boot!
