Summary

Telling the epic tale of a fantasy world shadowed by a familiar and threatening force, Ascaron's Sacred pits players as a brave and skilled warrior as they embark on an adventure to bring a merciless being to his knees. This approach to role-playing games, with regards to story telling, has always been popular in the genre, and it works extremely well in Sacred.

But Sacred is a great game too, because as well as offering an in-depth story and hardcore RPG experience, it also boasts an element of action-based gameplay in combat. To begin with, players are able to choose from a selection of six playable characters, each of which hone their own set of special skills and abilities. These characters comprise of a Battlemage, Wood Elf, Gladiator, Dark Elf, Seraphim and Vampiress. Whatever your decision, it will noticeably affect the way Sacred is played as far as your approach to battle is concerned.

And that's where the action element of play comes in. Using a selection of combat moves and magic spells, players can combine their talents for single-click attacks. There are also sections of the game where horseback combat is an option, and with more than 2,500 weapons at your disposal, some parts of your adventure will seem more akin to a bloody hack and slash affair.

The rest of the adventure stays faithful to its hardcore fanbase, whereby players can interact with some 300 non-playable characters in a free roaming world that is extremely accessible right from the beginning. What's more, there are some 30 missions and 200 sub-quests spanning Sacred's 16 vast and themed locales. There's a lot to sink your teeth into here - are you up to the challenge?
