Summary

The third instalment of Capcom's pocket MegaMan adventure series now comes to the Game Boy Advance, appearing in the form of two slightly differing alternatives. In a similar fashion to Pokemon releases, Battle Network 3 is available in either White or Blue - essentially the same game, but with each featuring different additional Battle Chips, enemies, bosses and other surprises.

Featuring all the characters from Mega Man Battle Network and Mega Man Battle Network 2, the game sees you join Mega Man.EXE, his pal Lan and friends as they keep the Net safe from viruses, cyber-criminals and a host of web-based adversaries. Along the way, you travel through new real and virtual worlds, whilst fighting new bosses, interacting with new characters and finding those all-important new battle chips.

New to the series is what's known as the Navi Customiser, which is a system that allows fine control over the customisation of MegaMan's abilities. Throughout the game, you can collect program parts that give him one of seven different fighting styles - normal, guts, custom, brother, shield, ground (White version only) or shadow (Blue version only). These are assembled via the use of a memory map and subsequently placed into MegaMan. However, if you don't follow the rules, or if you try to lock together incompatible parts, then energy levels can be affected, thus diminishing effectiveness in battle.

As there are two versions of the game, it's only to be expected that there's support for link-up play. So if you've got a link cable and a GBA-owning mate, you can connect together and face off against each other in tournament play or exchange Battle Chips.
