Summary

It's time once again for those mysterious forces of darkness to get into full swing as Mindscape's latest RPG epic, Mistmare, hits PC.

In a parallel dimension, the history of the world has taken an evil turn. The populace, under the guidance of the all-powerful Roman Church has neglected the sciences and reverted to spellcasting and magic. A thousand years before, the sorcerer priests, whilst dabbling in the occult, spawned an evil mist that spread over the earth, devouring everything in its path. Now the year is 1996, and only a few cities survive as scattered beacons of light in a dark world. Their survival depends on enchanted bells that ring out from the cities' Cathedrals to ward off the mist. Ding-dong.

You will assume control of Isador, a detective of sorts, who is sent on a manhunt that will change his life forever.

In typical RPG gameplay, your begin your epic journey as an inexperienced adventurer with few skills, magic techniques or fighting abilities, but it is this fundamental attribute that helps to make Mistmare the game it is. In one of the most customisable playing experiences seen in an RPG, your character evolves depending on the choices you make and the people you interact with. As far as combat goes, players learn "The Arts" from various schools of fighting scattered around the game world. In this respect, it's a fairly open game and not too linear. Players can also master the art of capturing and controlling the game world's resident beasts for their own interests. It's an extremely useful feature that unlocks some innovative opportunities within Mistmare.

Mistmare is a hardcore RPG and one that's well balanced and compelling to play.
