Summary

The next time some crazy American goes on a killing spree, one of the key scapegoats in the subsequent national uproar will almost definitely be this latest gun game from Konami. But for those of us devoid of any kind of homicidal tendency, sniper-based shooter Silent Scope can be a real blast with its combination of simple gameplay mechanics and pinpoint accuracy. This latest sequel follows in the trend of the series, bringing the nail-biting action of the arcade exclusively to the PlayStation 2.

In Silent Scope 3, the story begins when a nefarious terrorist organisation abducts a leading expert on cloning technology in a plan to use his knowledge for (you guessed it) world domination. As a top-secret government operative, it's up to you to prevent this global threat by rescuing the scientist and doing what you do best: taking out the bad guys with your trusty sniper rifle.

The game contains an original story mode with numerous new areas created exclusively for the PS2. Also, to give you a bit more for your hard-earned cash than your average gun game, all 14 missions from the arcade Silent Scope EX are included.

In a novel concept and a first for the series, an innovative 3D surround system has been implemented, which allows the more aurally observant amongst you to listen out for the location of targets and enemies.

Although a somewhat diluted experience without the actual rifle that you get in the arcades, the home version of Silent Scope is still an intense and addictive game. This latest release is certainly worth a look if you're a fan of this particular genre.
