Largo Winch: Empire Under Threat is something of a 'Bond-em-up' with regards to the involved plot, business discussions and gadgetry. The French born star of comics and TV was raised a shrewd businessman, but developed a penchant for a good adventure. This is extremely well reflected in Empire Under Threat, and makes for a great video game.

An ex-mistress of Largo's father, who had been victim of an ethnical conflict 20 years ago, misappropriates the money and the resources of the W Group in order to achieve a large-scale poisoning in a small western European country, in the guise of a humanitarian operation. You task as the company director is to prevent the poisoning and save the reputation of W Group.

Empire Under Threat is a heart, a dedicated adventure game in which you must interact with dozens of non-playable characters, search for clues and solve mysteries. But there's a little more to this adventure than meets the eye. In some respects, the adventure world acts as a hub to several completely different gaming experiences. For example, one section of the game challenges you to a game of poker that you must participate in and, hopefully, win. Another area takes the player online as Largo tries to stop a computer hacker. A whole interface was created just for this scene alone.

Empire Under Threat follows the theme of the TV series closely and recreates the glamour, action and exotic locations in stunning 3D. The PlayStation 2 version looks great, but doesn't benefit from high-resolution monitors like its PC counterpart. Nevertheless, smooth textures, fluid animation and a great narrative makes for a thoroughly believable, linear action game.
