The third instalment of the much-loved RTS series has finally arrived on the PC. This time around, as you may have guessed, the action now benefits from a graphical overhaul and revamped gameplay, as well as an assortment of new single and multiplayer features.

Destination Berlin's main game is made up of three campaigns: Stalingrad, Central Europe and Normandy. Each of the campaigns encompasses many different tactical situations that can be played in any order, and features scenarios unseen in previous Commandos games. Throughout the game, the action takes you to the Stalingrad battlefields of the Eastern Front, the heart of the Reich in the Gestapo headquarters in Berlin and the D-Day assault at Omaha Beach.

New to the series is a re-written interior game engine that enables you to rotate the detailed environments and also to zoom in and out. The structure of the game has also been completely revamped, featuring more detailed and smaller maps, which subsequently make for more action orientated missions. With regard to the combat itself, Commandos 3 incorporates an assortment of new gaming situations including ambushes, assaults and level bosses.

One of the more favourable elements to a game such as this is the multiplayer support - Commandos 3 doesn't disappoint, offering a host of game modes for up to eight players across the net or over a LAN. For the first time in the series there's now the option of a deathmatch mode, which makes for some truly epic battles.

Throughout, Destination Berlin has a much more polished feel than its predecessors. The overall visuals are greatly improved and a strong narrative carries the story along with the help of some impressive cinematics. If you're an RTS fan then Commandos 3 is certainly the next 'must have' title.
