Summary

We all have fond memories of playing with toy cars. Driving up walls, flying over massive jumps, and pulling huge skids. The vehicles were indestructible and we were the greatest drivers in the world. Well, Beyond Games took this into consideration with the development of Hot Wheels Velocity X, delivering a game that plays like toy cars, as well as featuring them.

In the game, your driving skills are put to the test, as you defend Monument City from a criminal gang of racing villains. The mission-based game follows a story that takes you and your cool car through 30 treacherous missions, set across six huge levels of a destructible 3D world. All rivals must be crushed and to accomplish each mission you must do whatever it takes, including a host of crazy stunts like speeding through loops, catching big air, and running opponents off the road. Alternatively, the bad guys can also be taken out with the aid of the game's arsenal of powerful weapons.

As well as the single-player story mode, there are also a number of multiplayer modes, which offer head-to-head racing, battles and a selection of stunt challenges.

Hot Wheels Velocity X most definitely sticks close to its toy car roots. The inspiration behind the game is playing with Hot Wheels cars and making the fantasy real, and that's exactly what the game has achieved. There are no pretensions to be an authentic driving simulator, just a great deal of fast and childish racing fun.
