Summary

With the popularity of the extreme sports genre at an all time high, Dark Summit’s mission-based Snowboarding comes to Gamecube. Already available on PS2 and Xbox, the game takes a different approach to the usual snowboard sim by delivering objective-based missions as opposed to straightforward downhill racing.

The game itself focuses on a peaceful ski resort called Mount Garrick. Reserved only for the region’s most upstanding citizens, the resort has seen a ban on Snowboarders and that means a ban on you. It is therefore your objective to race down the mountain, evading the resident ranger’s attempts to catch you and banish you from Mount Garrick forever.

Each ‘mission’ comes with several objectives that must be fulfilled in order to proceed to later stages of the game. All levels require your snowboarding expertise and you must perform seemingly impossible stunts to survive the ranger’s onslaught.

Successful performance rewards you with increased respect from your fellow ‘Mountain Rebels’ which, in turn, leads to the unlocking of new areas and missions.

At the time of writing, Dark Summit is the only game of it’s kind to grace Nintendo’s purple fun box and, despite the obvious plethora of clones to be expected in the near future, offers an original spin on the typical Snowboarding game.
