Summary

Thanks to Runecraft and Ubi Soft, an all-new version of Scrabble is to be released on PlayStation. Admittedly, it’s the same old Scrabble, but it comes with stunning presentation and still offers a classic playing experience. Look at it this way, at least you won’t lose any tiles.

For the few people who don’t know the rules of Scrabble, here they are. You will be given seven lettered tiles with which you must formulate the highest scoring word possible. Clearly, letters such as X and Z have a greater value, but the quantity of legitimate words that use such letters is limited. Once you’ve chosen your word, you must place it on the board in a horizontal or vertical fashion. Certain spaces on the board contain score boosters that will increase the value of your chosen word. Triple Word Score is particularly useful. Your letter supply will then be replenished and you must repeat the process once your opponent has placed his word on the board. Whoever scores the most points after all letters have been exhausted is the winner. That’s really all there is to it.

As far as the PlayStation version is concerned, there are several different backgrounds to cast your beady eyes on when playing, as well as a full 3D presentation of the playing board and its tiles. But all this is soon forgotten when you get into the game proper. It’s all aesthetics really.

A game of Scrabble can host up to four players, computer controlled or otherwise. But the best part is, no one can cheat. The opposition can’t catch a glimpse at your own letters to form an unfair strategy. This makes the PlayStation version the most fair game there is. The game is highly customisable, and as far as Scrabble goes, this is the ultimate version. It even clears away the tiles for you when you're done playing!
