Who'd want to live in the 14th Century, eh? It certainly sounds like a pretty miserable period in history. The 100 years war, the Black Plague and the Inquisition are just a few of the reasons why we should all think ourselves lucky we live in the 21st Century and, as such, can experience the horrors of this nasty era from the safety of our PCs. That's right, with Inquisition, the medieval adventure game from Wanadoo.

The game's story tells of a young thief called Matthew who comes to Paris to seek his fortune. A bungled burglary lands him in Chatelet prison, where he meets Jack, an elder Templar knight, who has taken a serious beating at the hands of the Inquisition torturers. Just before dying, he gives Matthew a seal, which seems to be the first step towards finding the Treasure of the Templar Knights.

A combination of action, infiltration and adventure, this 3D, third-person game sees players take on the role of Matthew and embark on the quest to discover the incredible secret of the Templar Order. It's not an easy task though, as Inquisitors, bloodthirsty pillaging 'skinners', beggars, and esoteric brothers all pose potentially fatal threats to the young protagonist, as does the scourge that is the Black Plague.

Players must keep on their toes and make full use of the interactive environments if they are to evade capture and stay alive. Just some of the actions that are required include sneaking past sleeping guards, hopping across rooftops, picking locks, battling the enemy and stealing information.

The attention to detail in Inquisition makes for quite an immersive experience. Every architectural detail, costume and weapon has been extensively researched so as to give a faithful reconstruction of the medieval world of the 14th Century. Not the most pleasant of eras but a great setting for an adventure game.
