When Rugrats was first aired on British TV in the early nineties, the cartoon-loving public went berserk. Not content with loads of TV exposure, thousands of pieces of merchandise and a big-screen outing, fans of the phenomena wanted more, and those with game consoles got exactly that. Several video games have been already been produced, featuring the Rugrats, but none aimed specifically at a female audience – until now, that is. Rugrats: Totally Angelica for PlayStation is THQ’s latest offering.

Featuring the devious Angelica as the star of the game, she (you) must interact with the other characters in the game to progress, including Phil, Dil, Lil, Chucky and Tommy. Most of the game consists of events that will ultimately lead to a series of mini-games, and that’s where the fun lies. These varied events incorporate aspects of several different genres, such as platform, puzzle and arcade-style games. The goal of these games is to acquire as many clothes and accessories as possible so that Angelica is ready and waiting for the Rugrats Fashion Show. There are about eight hours of play in total, and while this doesn’t seem like a huge amount of playing time, the game is immensely challenging from the outset.

As long as you bear in mind that Totally Angelica is aimed at girls in the same way the successful GameBoy Color version was, you should find this a thoroughly enjoyable playing experience.
