Summary

House of the Dead 2 with the guns replaced by keyboards and quickfire shooting from the hip replaced with rapid typing? It’s a strange world. So, put that lightgun away and warm up your fingers for a different kind of bloodbath.

This strange game is straight from the Japanese arcades where Sega had ingeniously hooked a keyboard up to a Naomi cabinet. The game was a massive success, causing Sega to begin production of a typing version of Virtua Fighter.

Typing of the Dead is an intense game. If you have played either of the House of the Dead games you will know that it’s an all-out shooting match requiring massive levels of concentration. Typing of the Dead is even more frantic.

The story of Typing of the Dead is exactly the same as House of the Dead. The city has been overrun with zombies and it’s up to you to take them apart, literally. You and your FBI colleagues have been equipped with back-pack Dreamcasts and over-the-shoulder tray-like keyboards. Exactly how typing random words kills the undead is never explained, but it is very effective. Chunks of filthy greening flesh flies all over the place as words and phrases are typed successfully.

This port of the Japan only Dreamcast title features five game modes including a typing tutorial and a Boss only game. You can also play co-operatively across your local area network.
