Summary

Famous cartoon classics like Tom and Jerry are rarely seen on TV these days. However, keeping the famous duo in the public eye is renowned developer Ubi Soft, with a flurry of T&J related releases. Among this plethora of games lurks Mouse Attacks, a GameBoy Color creation due to reach the audience of 100 million. There is no doubt that the GameBoy has been phenomenally successful piece of hardware, but the limitations of the machine lead to Ubi Soft taking a backward step, and making Mouse Attacks into a 2D platformer. But this is not necessarily a bad thing; let’s take a look.

It is a side-on scrolling game, true, but some of the best pieces of software have sprung from the 2D days of the eighties, and it looks as though Mouse Attacks is a game to accentuate this fact. Mouse Attacks is a simple game, you must take on the role of Jerry, and challenge Tom, who has kidnapped all of your friends. Levels are often complex, both on horizontal and vertical planes, with some fiendish platform challenges and many hard-to-reach collectibles. Many of these challenges must be completed in order to reach the next area of the game, making Mouse Attacks a frequently linear experience. And while there is nothing that hasn't been done before in the game, it is still a lot of fun to play.
