How do you fancy your chances at challenging the world’s number one? With Virtual Kasparov on the PlayStation you have that opportunity. You probably won’t win on the hardest setting but you might learn a trick or two along the way. Chances are this game will make you a better player, regardless of your skill level.
If you are new to the game of chess or would like to brush up on your skills, Virtual Kasparov features an excellent tutorial mode to help you learn. There are 50 different lessons that range from learning the basics such as piece movement to advanced techniques such as pinning and forking. You are then presented with various situations with a move or two to complete the objective. These situations help to get you into the right mindset for playing chess, thinking several moves into the future.
Virtual Kasparov offers several customisable options to tailor the game to your own preferences. You can choose either a 2D or 3D board and with the 3D board you can alter the perspective and angle in real time and change the pieces. The computer difficulty can be altered to use advanced opening book techniques, basic techniques or not to use the book at all.
Virtual Kasparov is a comprehensive chess simulation, it’s aesthetically pleasing and puts up a good challenge. It is best played in the two-player mode of course.
