Summary

Lemmings Revolution for the PC is how Lemmings should be. This is a great update of a timeless classic with the right blend of old and new. The gameplay is very similar to the original with only a few new types of lemmings. What makes this game special is the environments and how the little fellows interact with them. The ‘Revolution’ in the title has a double meaning, the Lemmings have to fight for their freedom and also the levels are cylindrically designed. By holding the right mouse button down you can completely spin the level around 360 degrees. Now this is where things get interesting because sometimes when the Lemmings are released into the level they will walk to the left or right. So you need to keep your wits about you as often it feels like you’re playing two different levels at the same time.

Luckily, the pause function of the game is quite useful and while paused you can still rotate the level, highlight the Lemmings and formulate strategies. The zoom function allows you to get in close with the action, handy for tricky sections. Another nice addition is that if you hold down the left or right arrows on the keyboard you will select a Lemming moving in that direction. One level that really impressed us was the one where half the Lemmings are flipped up onto the ceiling, very nice. This game has over 100 levels so it’s guaranteed to keep you playing for a long time. Lemmings revolution has a nice learning curve, it eases you into the experience and gradually gets more difficult. Now I would choose gameplay over graphics any day, but it’s so nice to have both.
