Summary

Psygnosis were pretty chuffed when they created the Wipeout series. So much so they decided to make Rollcage, which is essentially Wipeout on wheels. This is Rollcage Stage 2 the follow-up. So what’s different from the original? (Original Rollcage that is, not Wipeout.)

The gameplay is the same with the cars having a go-anywhere in any direction feel. There are twelve new weapons, sixty tracks, twenty cars, sixteen game modes and a peculiar soccer based sub-game.

The Rollcage world is set in the future with tracks designed accordingly. The pace is frantic but you feel in control most of the time. The only time you might feel a little detached is when your car clips the wall and your tyres grip and shoot you upwards. This problem can be overcome with time and can be a bonus as many of the boost points are located on the walls or ceiling.

There is a rewarding amount of things to unlock within the game. You are awarded a new car every time you come first in a new race so you fleet of motors racks up at a pleasing pace.

If you liked the Wipeout series or the first Rollcage release then this will be right up your futuristic raceway.
