Summary

The second title in the WipEout series gave players what they wanted; more of the same, with a few tweaks in the gameplay.

The handling of the ships is vastly improved as are the effects of collisions. No longer do you take a corner too wide, lightly brush a wall and stop dead. You now scrape along the wall, complete with a shower of sparks, slowing more and more. Just this small improvement makes the game much more playable, but that's not the only improvement to WipEout 2097.

With four types of craft to choose from, three classes of racing tournament with two tracks each, and eleven types of pick up to help the player or hinder their opponents, the game has a huge scope for replayability. And we haven't even mentioned the hidden Piranha ship, two secret tracks and the machine gun 'cheat only' weapon...

As with the first WipEout, two consoles can be linked together for head-to-head racing with or without the computer controlled opponents.
