Summary

The king of iron fist, enter the Tekken. Tekken is Namco’s answer to Sega’s popular Virtua Fighter series. Tekken is a 3D fighting game where all competitors battle it out to determine who the most deadly fighter is. The aim of the game is simple, but the diversity of gameplay will take months to master. There are literally hundreds of moves and combos to learn.

Tekken has an ingenious natural control method. Each button controls one limb of your character, square for left punch and triangle for right punch, etc. Buttons can be linked together to create long 10-hit combinations, hard to memorise but equally difficult to block. Multiple button presses plus directional inputs can result in devastating special moves. The character named Nina for example can execute a chin punch by rolling the controller half-circle forward and then press left and right punch. After this connects, you can add additional moves to carry on this combo. Ouch.

Tekken is a truly addictive fighting game, especially in the two-player mode. There are several secret characters to unlock by completing the game several times. If you destroy all of the Galaga ships (there's a little bit of a bonus game to play while Tekken is loading) you will be rewarded with a special secret character.

Graphically, Tekken isn’t pretty but it is a milestone in the history of video games. If you can pick up a copy at a cheap price, it will be more than worth it.
