Gamescom 2012
Ok, beside the story mode, we’re also given a few other game types to have a poke around at. The multiplayer modes come in the forms of Deathmatch, Multiverse madness, Capture the Greased Up Deaf Guy and Infiltration. Now as you can imagine, Deathmatch is a standard free for all. Kills earn points (or money, in this case), X amount of money = win. Multiverse madness is a
Gears of War Horde type mode, you and up to three other players have to hold out against wave upon wave of enemies.
Capture the Greased up Deaf Guy – can you guess? Yep, it’s capture the flag with a twist. There’s a ‘greased up deaf guy’ released into the map, and it’s your job to kill him, take his flag and return it to your base.
Infiltration is a mode where you’re given a target money score, and rotating objectives to earn cash. These objectives range from pirates spawning with treasure chests around the map (you have to kill the pirates and claim their treasure) to a ‘king of the hill’ objective where you have to stand in the hill until you’ve captured it, and then defend it from other players.
The interesting thing about Infiltration mode is that you’re up against a bunch of AI enemies and players at the same time. Overall, multiplayer is a whole lot of fun. I’ve been left wondering though, why isn’t there an option to play online? The only way you can enjoy multiplayer is by sacrificing screen real estate to a friend.
That isn’t all though! As well as the story mode and the four multiplayer modes, we’re also given a ‘Challenge Mode’ to have a play with. There are a bunch of different stages under challenge mode, each with different objectives. These objectives could be anything from running around a college campus and taking pictures of girls partying while playing as Quagmire within a set time limit to saving non-handicapped people from the ‘Crips’ that are trying to convert them.
Earlier on I asked if there was more to
Family Guy: BTTM than just hardcore fans and unsure mums. Well, yes, yes there is. The story mode is fun with a nice range of weapons and that well known
Family Guy humour. The challenge mode is again fun, with some slightly naughty objectives. I can’t help but feel that the game is really lacking when it comes to the multiplayer though. I mean yeah, it’s fun to play with a friend, but without online capabilities, the only way to do this is to gather around a single console. This is a huge oversight and really let down the overall playability of the game.
