I'm still going to get a DS. I have yet to see enough PSP games that appeal to me. Plus, I would like to see Nintendo say in the games market in some form.

well, Its official:

Sony's planning to illegally dump their Sony PSP at 60% below cost, selling PSP for only $180.

Sony can get away with dumping in Japan, but else where this is a different story. Sure dumping is tolerated amoung full-sized game consoles, but not in the handheld computer market! There are already many, many companies in this market: Palm, zodiac, Dell, HP,...

For Sony to start dumping a handheld computer into this market that is already established would be a highly illegal and anti-competive move by Sony. Sony should not be allowed to get away with this and ruin the competiveness of the market with anti-competive monopoly tactics and deep pocket money burning.

Zodiac, Palm, Dell, HP, PocketPC, Apple and anybody who makes handheld computers or MP3 players should prepare to sue Sony for being monolopistic a-holes and trying to take over a market by dumping their product at a 60% lose. It is against the law to sell products at a lost particular when the market for handhelds is already well established. Dumping products is anti-competive, monopolistic, highly unethical, and highly illegal. Shame on Sony.

Somebody should put an end to this by filing an injuction against Sonywhen they launch their product or sue Sony for damages inoccured by dumping.

Like I said before the PSP price is a good move, but what we have heard nothing of yet is the price of the games. Will it be 30 or 40 pounds per game. No mention of this so far.

The DS is still holding the interest for me because it's means is unique and new to gaming. I need to be reminded why I play games at all. DS will do that for me. Having stuff like N64 and GBA classics on it is icing on a very nice portable plate.

That's an interesting point...

It is predatory behaviour, but is such a move actually illegal? Remember that Microsoft thieved Netscape, renamed it Explorer, and gave it away free... anti-competitive practise that was, apparently, completely within the law (after Gates got someone to rejig the law)

I can't imagine that anti-monoploy laws would be able to restrict this move. Sony, after all, hasn't even got a handheld on the market yet, so could not be deemed to have a monopolistic position.

I just sent this post around work and boy, did we have a good laugh! What, exactly, were you smoking when you wrote this pile of ludicrous b******s? And if you use the word 'dumping' one more time I might file an injunction against you for monopolizing it.

I don't know which one of you's smoking stuff.

It is true that by putting a product in a market at a huge loss to sell units could be considered unethical practice. I am, however, unsure of any legal status. It is highly probable that Sony have already checked this, and consider any repercussions minimal or untroublesome.

As for having problems with the term "dumping"... go back to school. Get an education. Grow a brain.

Ah, so your 'not sure of the legal status'...ok, because what threw us off was when you said "Sony's planning to illegally dump their Sony PSP..." Might want to read what you post. And as for getting an education...that means a lot coming from someone who came up with the sentence:

Sony should not be allowed to get away with this and ruin the competiveness of the market with anti-competive monopoly tactics and deep pocket money burning.

Your a prat. Get over it.

I don't think Sony has thought it over very well.

Sure, dumping is accepted practice for fullsized game consoles.

But, not for the handheld market. I dont' think Palm, PocketPC, Zodiac, Gizmondo, and many other companies are going to be very thrill by Sony giving away PSP's signifcantly below cost.

These companies should get together and sue the pants off of sony.

PSP is nothing more than a Trojan horse PDA.
I'm sure Palm and Microsoft realise this.

As for Microsoft vs. netscape. There were cetrainly many many law suits related to this.
Why should Sony PSP be any different?
Sony is every bit as big a monopoly as Microsoft, even worse in many respects, also trying to get you addicted to their propetry media and buying movie and music companies left and right to propagate their monopolies..

By the way, Netscape gave away their web browser away for free before microsoft came along. do you actually know of anybody that ever paid for a netscape browser? can hardly blame microsoft for doing the same thing by giving their's away for free. That was part of the dot com buisness model of netscape, give away the broswer for free, then charge people for netscape web servers, except they didn't count on people giving away webservers for free also. (apache web server)

Dude, you do realise that smoking crack is a crime, and makes your cock small don't you?

EXACTLY! It would be no different. Sony would walk away scot free, just like Microsoft did.

Go on. Back that up with just ONE fact. A single fact. Go on, I dare you.

Whereas Microsoft are simply trying to control the means of distribution. That way, THEY decide what we see, hear and play.

Here we go again. All talk no facts. Did you ever READ the Netscape licence agreement? Exactly who did they "give" it away to? Students, home users and non-profits. Any commerical use of it without paying was illegal.

Lay off that crack, man!

Um, whaleyboy, I think you'll find that the poster that wrote "not sure of the legal status" (bynight) is not the same poster that wrote "Sony's planning to illegally dump their Sony PSP" (fluffstardx)

Might want to read what others post and check who posts it before unleashing your bile.

Check yer facts, George!

Microsoft bought Spyglass Mosaic, formerly NCSA Mosaic, and re-named it to Internet Explorer.

The rest is correct, MS then gave it away for free to everybody, bundled it with the OS, integrated it with the OS and used it as a lever with ISPs to push Netscape out of the market completely.

Not that I see any of this happening with the PSP.

What is illegal about selling low? It is done with all consoles as the format owners expect to make up the money with thier cut of games sales. This is a business model, not an illegal practice.

You have no brain! How is this a Trojan horse PDA? Does it manage my shopping list? Does it let me email? Does it let me write documents? Does it let me make spreadsheets? How do you write with no keyboard or stylus?

The DS is the one with the stylus, is that a PDA too?

Fool!

The stylus does not make a PDA! its the software, the screen size, and the ability to enter text!
a PSP is a hanheld computer just like a PDA, with a large screen, and a clip on keyboard. The PDA stylus is replacable with a joystick controlled curser.
This is all just software... all the peices are there.
You are the ones smoking dope, if you can't see that.

Second, the game console practise of backloading the cost of the game console onto game developers is an extremely anti-competive practice, and consumer endup play more in the end for less choice in hardware and one company controlling everything.

Supporting this type of monopoly is not in our best interest.

Its like when you go to buy a printer ink cartidge. you don't realise they make up the price of the printer by offloading it onto the price of the ink cartirge. then you go to the store an realise they want 50 dollars for a stupid ink carterage that should only close 10 dollars. you get fuk'ed in the long term and end up playing more and having fewer choices in hardware.
