Well the evil empire microsoft has a 10% stake in immersion, well here's my theory. I believe sony will rather pull the ps2 line form us shores than have to pay microsoft. Microsoft is so desprat to beat sony that if they can't bet them in sales then they will profit from them instead. Well this little bullshit strategy will come to bite microsoft in the ass.
Hear me out, if the ps2 line is pulled, what microsoft is gonna cause is an early death of their next system. Do you realise how many people will be pissed that ps2 is no longer on their store shelves. There will be so many people waiting for ps3 to come out and by sony pulling the ps2 line off, they can manufacture more ps3's for launch. I bet the next dual shock will not have immersions technology, so immersion will be f**ked.
So by microsoft and immersion doing this it wont hurt sony much anyway because there are 35 million people in the usa that have ps2 and xbox wont top that, especially since the new xbox comes out this fall. So when the playstation 3 comes out with a new revolutionary dual shock controler, sony will blow everyone out the water.
All immersion and microsoft are doing is causing more anticipation for the PlayStation 3.

i agree wth u neocarrillo, i would rather sony pull the ps2 than pay microsoft,( its inevitable that sony would stop ps2 production evebtually anyway) this would create more anticipation for ps3.

I think it's highly unlikely Sony would pull PS2 just to spite M$, months before PS3 is released; the Playstation brand is too important to them. But say it did happen, I'm not sure consumers would wait specifically for the next PS. Remember, the Xbox Next is supposed to be coming out before PS3 and when M$ ram it down our throats though promotions and marketing, and see EA's line-up of sports titles (mistaking the fancy cut-scene graphics for in-game - a la the current hyped Yank Footy shots) it will VERY tempting.
I think Sony HAVE to keep with PS2 until PS3 comes along, even if it means filling M$'s coffers in the mean time (in which time they can develop a new rumble technology that doesn't require dual motors in unison ;))
Sony have got to keep the momentum of the PS brand going.

sony does have some hope of avoiding paying microsoft, i think were forgeting sonys latest piece of hardware that has no dual shock controllers - the psp, if sony milk the psp for all its worth they will make a fair amount of money.

Whether the infringement was correct or not, I have no idea. But the two companies dealt with it in different ways. ps3 is slated for a 2006 realease, not long after xbox 2, by which time everone who would want an xbox2 would have had one and interest would have slowed down and playstation sales would increase.
three companies are working on the cell processor that will power ps3 as opposed to microsoft who r making it on their own (not that im saying that will make it good)

Yeah xbox 360 is the worst name but sony has the coolest names PlayStation 2 or 3 and PSP. Check it out guys. When the Playstation 3 hits everyone is gonna go bannanas. It will knock xbox 360 on it's ass.
1. Backwards compatible - You can play ps1, ps2 and ps3 games.
2. DVD - We will still play our dvd's and the new blu-ray dvd's.
3. PSP connection - If you own a psp you can connect wirelessly and you can put your memory sticks in the ps3.
4. Best games - nintendo may have mario, donkey kong, zelda and kirby and microsoft has halo (I would metion other games but there are none lol). Playstation on the other gets everything the other 2 companies get and a bunch of exclusives. What I mean by exclusives are games like devil may cry, final fantasy, gran turismo and grand theft auto. Now it is true xbox did get gta 3, vice city and san andreas but look how long they had to wait. By the time they get it everyone has
already talked about it and played the s**t out of it.
5. Better graphics - now the problem with the ps2 that every hater attacks is the graphics. It's true xbox and gamecube are better looking graphically. But you have to understand that when ps2 was being made the only next generation console out was dreamcast. So sony didn't know the specs of gamecube or xbox, sony would have smoked them if they knew though.
So with the ps3 we get nvidia to make the graphics chip and we know what wonders they did for xbox. I feel microsoft was stupid for letting them go. Not only are they better than ATI but are also more innovative. Look at pc's graphics, nvidia was the first to come out with pci express and now they are the first with SLI - dual graphics cards, mean while ATI was blown away cause nvidia was giving better graphics and more performance for a cheaper price than ATI.

I haven't posted anything in a while, but most of these comments were interesting. If sony does pull the PS2, it could do either extreme. It could be that everyone just wants the PS3 more. Of course Sony would have to redesign their controller around a new rumble system, may destroy some of the iconography of the playstation, but personally, i've never really gotten used to the playstation controller, just doesn't sit right in my hands. Of course it could as easily hit the other extreme, because there is no playstation branding out there people lose any loyalty they had for the system and start to look at it objectivly 'why do i still have this when that console can play most of the same games, but new ones are still being made etc.' Keeping your brand alive in the customer's minds is very important, hence why McDonald's and Coke spend millions every year in advertising despite the mcdonalds arches being more universally recognised than the cross and a lot of fuss over Coke being sold in Somalia.

I agree, Playstation is a good name. But you can only fool people for so long. They will gradually realise that it does not mean 'best' just ' a console by Sony'

The person who made Final Fantasy has signed a contract with Microsoft to produce his next two RPG's exclusively for 360. GTA3, I agree was very late, but although the game was good, having PS2 graphics on Xbox was such a let down. I do agree however that PS2 gets all the rest of the games. This is only because it has sold more, so therefore should all these users should mean more game sales. In the next generation, because Microsoft ewill have a much larger chunk of the market, this will automatically change. Look at all the games announced for 360. None so far for PS3, but thats probably because its so far off.

Don't think you will be able to download cars for GT4, its for PS2. Maybe GT5 or GT6. This will bring Playstation ownwers up to where Xbox 1 ownwers are now- downloads. You dont know what you are missing. And, if your live service is copied from Microsoft as well, you really do have something to feel good about.
