Geek Out: 360 Face Plates Revealed

Jap site taking pre-orders for Xbox paraphernalia

If you’re the sort of person who likes to get themselves worked up into a lather about the future, then take a look at this Japanese website. As you can see, they’re already selling - or taking orders at least - for a wide range of Xbox 360 objects, from the console itself to the various wires, controllers and memory devices that you might like to buy to go with it. But most interesting of all for crystal ball gazers like yourselves we imagine, will be the five Xbox 360 faceplates they have on display. Well, we say five; one of them looks - if not very nearly the same as the standard one - then actually the same as the standard one. Why you'd want a spare part for a device you don't even have yet is anyone's guess. But we suppose you might be anticipating punching your new Xbox 360 right in the kisser for not letting you win at one of its fancy new games or something...

Anyway, the jpegs are of a fair resolution - you can zoom right in on them and everything! We can’t read the Japanese language – quite frankly we can’t see how anyone west of Fukuda could. Looks like a sequence of identical question marks to us. But we’re assuming that the number 2,100 is for yen. Which is about a tenner. So, you know they’ll be at least twenty quid over here in expensive land. Anyway, have a butcher’s - which one's your favourite?

Where the hell is the blue one with the cool interweaving lined pattern? That one was totally my pick. Now I'll probably just paint my own, or bring the basic faceplate down to an airbrush guy, then I can get whatever for the same price!

Well they're all ugly, to MTV for my own liking and actually nothing that a few bumperstickers can do better either.

You gotta love MS's preeching of 'customizability' when if you buy a core X360 and fiddle a bit with the OS so you can hook up your own 80 gig hard disk that's cheaper than the 99 euro 20 gig rip-off MS wants you to buy, you can't get on XboxLive.

Be fair MS and call it by its real name 'customizability where you pay us and only us to get a customization'... seriously.

you know till you said it it hadnt dawned on me but i wonder if third part perph makeers will eb abel to put out hard drives of thier own? they can make memory cards so since its basically a real big memory unit it shoudl be aloud... in an odd way the decision to make it removable might actually lead to more customizabilty in the aspect your complaining about.
special hard drive with licensed characters and such... perhaps even one that acts liek the ipod sort of the the 360 HD was originally rummored to be... be funny as s**t if apple made an ipod that stuck in there.... brings up alot of interesting possibilities.
shame is that since games are bootable off of it it most liekly wont be open to third parties... dare to dream though.
