Robbie Bach: No Halo 3 till it's ready.

In his first interview of the Amsterdam X05 event, Xbox supremo Robbie Bach has climbed down, regarding his overlord Bill Gates’ aggressive assertions that the release of Halo 3 would greet the PS3’s launch. Bach says:

Philosophically, the point Bill was trying to make is that we’re not just going to ship and not have great stuff coming up. We don't know when Sony will ship PS3. They’ve said spring...what we do know is that the way our portfolio lines up, we’re going to have great exclusive content. Halo is something we’ll ship when it’s ready

Ah, so it was just a philosophical point, and not macho talk of ‘Boom! Halo hits them right in the kisser!’ or whatever it was Mr. Gates said. The rather less bullish Bach goes on to say that the people at Microsoft are ‘cautiously optimistic’ about the Japanese launch of their console this time around. He also outlines the online model for Xbox 360, saying that there will be a free ‘Silver’ service which is intended to recruit people to the ‘Gold’ Xbox Live! – style setup. This is where the 50% of customers online figures has come from. You can read highlights from Mr. Bach’s words of wisdom here.

Halo 3 won't be all that crazy anyway; if anything it will retain what made Halo 2 good, make it better and bitch up the graphics. Which I suppose is what's to be expected. Releasing it simultaneously with the PS3 makes sense in anyone's book.

I think MS is waisting enough money on another team they bought that lives by the 'it's finished when it's finished' rule to have a second team doing the same thing.(team 1 = Rare, Team 2= Bungie)

If it doesn't get finished in time for the PS3, expect some end-level chopping to be had....again... and then you can buy them when they are finished on the Xbox Market....yeah! feel getting ripped off twice as much, the new next-gen game-expercience indeed...but it has more poly's....yeah!

You know...Revolution Halo...now there's a idea...

Sim-releasing it with PS3 makes no sense at all unless there is a PS3 version. Let's face it, no PSX/PS2 owners give a flying fistful of limited-edition lime Jaffa cakes about Halo.

They already said, on their own site, that Halo 3 will continue from the MOVIE.

Expect to see Halo 3 after the movie... so at least next Christmas.

I've never got why these companies do these things anyway - the rumoured PS2 pricedrop for the 360 release is stupid.

The difference releasing Halo 3 on PS3 release day would have made is MS would get more sales from people hanging back on a 360 til Halo 3 is out, thus stealing some Sony thunder. Nobody in their right minds would by a £280 360, £50 game AND a £500 PS3 on the same day, right? Or at least, that is what they think...

Since Halo - The Movie Evolved will come in 2007, expect to see Halo 3 by christmas 2007 or even 2008 if it goes long.

But doing things like this are good marketing strategies, USUALLY. It definitely makes casual games say hey, what's this? Maybe I don't need to buy a PS3, maybe the 360 is good idea with it's already established product line and firm marketshare. It's like saying would you rather have this NEW device which may or may not do well with games that have yet to be established.

Microsoft already has a marketing strategy to sway gamers on the line between the green (X-Box) and the blue (Sony). Microsoft already has games lined up for the PS3 launch, Halo or no Halo. Hardcore games like me will be buying all the systems and all the good games that go with it. So I have no choices. It's easy. Microsoft may actually have a chance to take a significant marketshare they so furiously claw at. With the best online support, the most money, alot more Japanese support, and at least a few months of a lead to iron out problems, things look good. At least until Sony decides to start playing the game they so easily have won as of now.
