Gamepark 32 in playable form feedback. New game showing!

At the recent COEX technologies event held in Seoul, Korea, Gamepark demonstrated its upcoming handheld console, the Gamepark 32.

The design has now been finalised and the good news is that the company has gone with the “all screen with buttons on stuck on the sides” approach. The feedback from the event was positive, with the machine performing well and looking fantastic. The console’s connectivity was highly praised as both the mobile adapter and wireless module were on display. The wireless module allows players to play together and communicate remotely within a 30 ft radius.

Also on show at the event was the latest title to be developed for the platform. Show Down has that oh-so-rare quality in a video game, true innovation. Show Down is a story-driven breakdancing game, surely the first ever. The story follows Jae-Hyung, a solo breakdancer looking for a dance crew to join. As the game progresses, new moves are learnt courtesy of a whole host of mini games, and rivalries are formed with other dancers and crews.

The over-riding vibe from the Gamepark camp seems to be quiet, cautious confidence. At present the GP32 looks as good, if not better, than the Game Boy Advance but this is really a side issue. SNK painfully demonstrated that superior games and performance means nothing in the handheld market.
