Revolution at E3 – Hardware Design Showing in Doubt

You may have been reading reports breaking over the last few days that talk of a withdrawal of Nintendo’s Revolution console at this year’s E3 show.
Nintendo has, from the very highest levels within the company, stated that it intends to show the Revolution, its next generation home gaming platform, at this May’s industry show and tell. Though if rumour is to be believed, this might not be the plan any more.
However, SPOnG firmly believes that there is little substance to stories currently doing the rounds right now. Although some news outlets quote ‘Japanese sources’ with some inside track, SPOnG can reveal that this is a somewhat disingenuous presentation of the root of current mutterings.
Indeed, these stories spring from gossip doing the rounds right now from sources as close to Nintendo as your mum. So let’s cut to the chase – what will be on show?
New Zelda. Lots of it. New DS stuff, lots of it, including a lot of non-gaming software with music and art packages slated. A new Game Boy. Yes, a new Game Boy. Exciting, huh? Mario 128, or whatever it’s going to be called. The Revolution will be shown in the form of an on-stage presentation. You get to see its games and what it looks like. It will probably keep some tricks hidden well within its sleeves with a playable appearance on the showfloor looking unlikely at best.
So does any of this spring from the paranoia of Nintendo president Satoru Iwata? Well, yes, of course it does. Nintendo isn’t stupid. It’s actually very clever. The Revolution hype train is at full steam right now. This is because Nintendo is about to launch a new games system and to date, no one knows anything about it.
The more Nintendo tells us, the more time we’ll spend playing our Xbox 360s and not caring as much. The Revolution will indeed be on show at this year’s E3, though it’s unlikely you’ll be playing it.
Nintendo has been telling us for some time now that touching is good. You have to remember that as far as keeping a dream alive is concerned, imagining is a lot better.
Stick with SPOnG for everything Nintendo on the run up to E3.

Glad to hear that feedback is important because that's what makes a great website. However, playing the lesser of the evils doesn't make your headline any more appropriate. Something along the lines of "Revolution at E3" or "Revealed Nintendo E3 showing points" or something along those lines. This paranoia pull is misleading. You don't need to try and get viewers to read your articles, we are coming to the site because of the news, we're a captive audience. Be real and sincere, like you have been (for the most part) in the past.

And an upgrade to SP, if there is one, does not count. That's just GBA.

Nintendo has said countless times that E3 will NOT be the big coming out party for Revolution and there will NOT be a new Game Boy at E3, including interviews with IGN.

I think that the Spong is good on this story.
As for the GBE making an appearence? It's really long overdue for one.. yet part of me wants them to push the GBE into March 2006 and show it off on video at E3.
I would rather they release the budget thin version of the GBA SP with a built in Play Yan device and an OLED screen. Essentially, this device -for less than $100- would be able to play movies, play music, and be the smallest "PVP" handheld out there for now. Not a bad deal, says I. *holds up 1GB SD card* Not at all! Since the GBA SPX would be $99.99 and a 1GB SD Card is as low as.. $70... the GBA SPX does something interesting: It attacks the iPod Shuffle and every single Flash DAP out there, VICTORIOUSLY. I mean, Sony is kidding themselves if they belive the PSP is taking sales away from the iPod or the iPod Mini. The GBA SPX may actually do that. You have brand name recognition, and for $99, if they throw in a 64MB card, they've got wallets. They already have my wallet anyways, I like my 20GB iPod, and I still carry the GBA SP sometimes. I carry it more than I do the PSP or DS because those systems are a bit big.
Personally, I'm still a little sad they rushed out the GBA and didn't give us the thin model GBC. I wanted one.

I mean, the hype surrounding PS3 and XBox 2 at the moment is a lot, and it could be too much if three next-gen consoles are shown at the same event. If they waited more Revolution hype would mount.
And they have enough to show off in the form of DS online and possibly the new Gameboy (there is no proving evidence either way). And we all know other companies do steal ideas from Nintendo.

i personly imagien it to be something liek what ninty will probably do... a cool video... few teaser bits of info... a coupel shots of some up coming games... kind of liek that video from before the cibe came out that had all the pokemon and the realistic zelda ... nothing real solid... just teaser stuff to try and draw you away from the 360 for now... then heavier infor the closer we get to the 360 launch... i must say this is starting to feel uncomfortablky like the dreamcast launch to me... no real reason... just feels that way... i suppose its mostly the PS monster looming on the horizon

I kind of assumed the PS3 would be at E3 myself, but we kind of know that they will at least demonstrate it at the conference before hand, hence the shifty reshuffle to theirs before MicroSoft's.
And BlueRay, whilst I don't particularly agree with Zeo on many points, I don't think it's fair to start acting like a child and insinuating that he was on a power rangers forum and got kicked because he was acting like a child on it (somewhat ironically). Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Who here is actually going to E3? I'm not bothering this year, because I always spend a ton of money when I'm there, and this year I'm flat broke because I accidentally bought a racing car on eBay... But DON'T get me started on that.
