Worms 4: Mayhem on the Way

Worms turn as Team17's next is signed by Codemasters.

Posted by Staff
Codemasters may have lost its CEO this week with the resignation of long-serving Nick Wheelwright, but news reaches us this morning of the UK publisher's signing of Worms 4: Mayhem, the latest from those developer types just up the road from us in the storm-tossed north of England, Team17.

In a press release of many paragraphs, Codemasters tells of a return to the series' trademark gameplay, which we can only interpret as turn-based combat - classic Worms we used to know and love so much we hope, but with a third dimension. Interesting features this time around include a Weapons Factory in which you can create your own novel armoury - as if the concrete donkeys and exploding sheep weren't enough..!

Worms 4: Mayhem will be available in Q2 of this year on PC, PS2 and Xbox. See this press announcement for more: http://news.spong.com/x?art=8209

Worms: DC Was the best Worms game ever. FACT!

if you mean the dream cast version i have to strongly disagree...

No Worms: DC = Worms: The Director's Cut on Amiga. Simply the ultimate 2D Worms.

Andy Davidson, where are you now???

It's a completely different Worms game for the Atari 400/800. I've been waiting for EA to update it for years ;-) Apparantly NFS updates are more important. Bah!

Well, I've got several, 2 A500s, an A600, an A1200 and a CD32.

I was thinking that I mught try to collect the set at one point, but I've got no room to do anything other than store them in their boxes. Plus getting hold of an A1000 these days would be a very pricy prospect.

There's a reason for that, but we won't go into it right now.

Well, my knowledge isn't terrible. But I am one of the few gamers never to own one - I made the rather masive platform jump from Spectrum 48+ to a Megadrive :/

Oh! A traitor in the computer vs console holy wars!

Quick burn him!!! :-)

Actually, I bought a PlayStation before I got a PC, so technically that makes me guilty too!

I know we're all trying to be "old school" and "hardcore" here, but as any educated gamer knows Worms 2 for the PC was by far the best in the series. It's all about the old woman and her exploding granny panties.

As for this Amiga funny business, I had a friend who had one, does that count. All I had was a Commodore 64 connected to my tv via C64 offical switch. Man it had such sweet fuzzy graphics.

I don't know about educated gamers. But as the guy who designed the Worms Logo, and was originally producer of the game... I think DC was the definitive version.

The exploding granny was introduced in Director's Cut, as was the Concrete Donkey and the Bat Rope.

My argument for Director's Cut being the best version is that DC had all the neat weapons, but didn't have the hideous cartoony backdrops and characters introduced in Worms 2.

Did the Bar Rope ever see action again after DC? I'm not sure it did...

Oh I was think that you were referring to the Dreamcast version. My blunder I suppose. You may be right. I'll have to play it.

Particularly since that whole can of worms has been covered earlier in this very thread.

You may be right. I'll have to play it.

Hmmm, given that Config worked at Team17 in the old days too, I'll bet he IS right.

Damn, well it is an opinion you know. Just about every statement is if you look at it the right way. Except for this statement, it is impervious to other ways of looking at it for it has tritanium armor and a minigun mounted on it's rear preposition.

But working for Team17, damn, he's get a few more notches on the respect bar in my book.

Let's not forget that DoctorDee and Tyrion also worked at T17 - we're all Teamsters!

And we all seem to agree that Worms: The Director's Cut is the best version. Therefore it's a FACT!

I guess it's time to call a close to our favorite thread. We've all determined that all of the Spong staff used to work at Team17, and we thank (and envy) them for that.
