New Atari Console Emerges!

Slightly misleading headline - you know you have to click!

Well it’s kind of a mixture of both, or as SPOnG like to call it, a huge world of retro gaming disappointment squeezed into a single sleek plastic box.

You see, Atari will be making available the Atari Flashback Classics game console, as pictured with this news story. The pack is a TV game with 20 built in titles from the Atari 2600 and 7800 consoles, featuring gaming classics including Adventure, Air-Sea Battle, Battlezone, Breakout, Canyon Bomber, Crystal Castles, Gravitar, Haunted House, Millipede, Sky Diver, Solaris, Sprintmaster, Warlords and Yars’ Revenge.

The machine is a rather sleek affair and comes equipped with two of those unusable 7800 joysticks, perhaps the worst controller of all time. This will, however add to the authenticity when you find yourself showing your slow 42 year-old uncle its prowess over the Yuletide period.

Keep an eye on the usual gadget stores for the machine, priced at around £40, which - despite our rather cynical tone - we really rather like the look of.

7800 joysticks???

WTF are they thinking?

The classic Atari joy is the ONLY option. I'd like to see an updated, 12 button, analog version of the classic Atari joy for modern gaming. :)

Personally, I'll pass this time - I'm waiting for the C64 in a stick thing.

Agreed. The VCS joy should be the ONLY controller for all games on all platforms.

None of this d-pad and analogue crap. I spent MANY hours battling Rainbow Islands on the Amiga using one... I was devastated when I got my PSX and discovered the trusty VCS joy wouldn't fit.

I still Goooooogle for an adaptor now and then.

not relating to the two of you specifically, but does anyone else hate that the word google has become a verb? i never yeahooed anything, or webcrawled any thing! why woudl i have googled something? damn evil marketing bastards! Not that google doesnt deserve the attention as they are by far the best search, i just really dont like that it has become part of the lingo. my mom googles things, that makes me unhappy... and before anyone says it... no my mom did NOT google your balls last night!

Those joysticks were all crap. D-pads and Thumbsticks are far better, since I got my NES I never once longed for a joystick ever again. I even used my megadrive pad on the Amiga.

Also googling is a great word. It instantly encapsulates what you were trying to do.

I don't think that Gooooooogle's evil Marketing bastards caused it. I think it just fell into the popular argot. Possibly because it's a better word than Yahoo or Webcrawl, and possibly because as a search, it's sooooo phenomenally popular.

I mean, in England at least, many people don't vacuum their home, they "hoover" it, even if they are using a Dyson or an Electrolux.

Plus Google, it a little like goggle, which has looking or seeing associations, and a little like a whole new word. Whereas Yahoo sounds like a tractor-driving hay-chewing country inbred. And webcrawler sounds like something you don't jusrt search for pr0n on, but also for female companionship.

"I am arresting you on suspicion of webcrawling, you do not have to say anything, but anything you do say..."

Sorry, but Quickshot II is the daddy. It was like an extra-limb for me in completing Knight Lore:
