GBA Retro Releases Continue, Jaleco NES Sports Back in Action

Moero!! Jaleco Collection to revive Goal!, Bases Loaded and more.

Nintendo pleased many long-standing fans with its re-issue of yesteryear’s Famicom hits for the GBA. Although part of this appeal lies with the mildy obsessive ‘look at my collection’ joy of acquiring each of the three complete boxed sets, true retro-heads were more than happy simply to play their childhood favourites once again.

So, leaping on the bandwagon, Jaleco has promised its own re-release of classics from the NES heyday - Moero!! Jaleco Collection - due in Japan by the end of spring 2005. In the knowledge that Jaleco fans aren’t quite as devoted as Nintendo fanboys, the sports-based collection will arrive in a more modest form. Dispensing with any nicely designed collector cases, Jaleco is squeezing six games onto a single GBA cartridge.

Most of the bundled titles were never released outside of Japan, and there’s a distinct possibility that Moero!! Jaleco collection will follow suit. However, given the GBA’s import-friendly nature, and the notable lack of important text in any of the games, this news could still be of interest to non-Japanese gamers.

The sporting activities on offer are as follows:

Moero!! Pro Soccer (also known as Goal! outside Japan)
Moero!! Pro Baseball (also known as Bases Loaded outside Japan)
Moero!! Pro Baseball ‘88
Moero!! Pro Tennis
Moero!! Pro Junior Basketball
Moero!! Judo Warriors

These are games I missed back in the day. Would be nice to see more collection carts like this on GBA. We've know for ages it's been possible due to boot leggers back in the GB days. It's about time something the same was done and put onsale to the public, and give us value for money.

I'd like to applaud Jaleco, because I'm sure Nintendo could have done the same with their current Famicom range, even though they are 14.99 each. Even Sega have done this with their Arcade Classics range and Phantasy Star Collection. I'm sure people would buy them more if they knew they'd get more than one game for their money.

I'd import this game, like many others we never see.

I think anyone would need their head looked at to fork out 15 notes any one of these 'NES' classics. Go download a million NES games in about a few minutes. Games companies are beginning to see the value in retro games - big value, but ONE game at THAT price, is one big scam.

I kinda agree with you on that one, although every time I'm in a game shop I do pick up the boxes and gaze at them longingly...

But I think stuff like this should work really well on a handheld... short bursts of simple fun ideal for short tube journeys etc...

I hope the bandwagon continues to gather pace
