Something rather incredible happened at this year’s Nintendo pre-E3 briefing, involving a video played on a huge screen, a grinning videogame developer, and a whole group of grown men crying.
Yes, it was the unveiling of the next incarnation of Zelda for the GameCube, a spiritual moment for some attendees.
Anyway, some information direct from the lips of the developer in question - Shigeru Miyamoto - has reached us, explaining various aspects of the new action RPG. “Link as a character will be taller with longer limbs, so we're going to have a lot more sword fighting and action elements like we saw in a game like Zelda II: The Adventure of Link", said Miyamoto-san. "And then of course, we'll have a lot of cool items that we can have Link using in different poses.” After Wind Waker, you forget that Link has legs.
Then, commenting on the theme of the game, he continued, “I don't necessarily think so [that it will be darker]. We haven't finished the game completely, but kind of like what we did with Ocarina of Time. We really want to create the feeling that the player is in the real world of Hyrule...and the feelings of going to very unique places. We've spent a lot of time focusing on that.”
So we are going to get a true-to-life, living and breathing depiction of Hyrule for the GameCube – surely a dream come true for Zelda fans...
We’ll bring you updates as they break.
