Nintendo has reacted to the rumours that Shigeru Miyamoto was planning to announce his retirement by describing them as 'absolute nonsense', confirming that, for the time being, the gaming legend is definitely staying put. Quite what the root cause of this speculation was remains uncertain - one website has already suggested that it might have been the work of a nervous competitor - there will, after all, be an enormous amount of tension between the launches of the Nintendo DS and the Sony PSP.
The alternative explanation would be that the supposed resignation might actually be a new shift in Miyamoto's work focus. A couple of months ago, we reported that Miyamoto might begin to concentrate on more specific products, rather than continuing to oversee projects on a general scale. This suspicion could well be confirmed at Nintendo's official E3 conference - we'll just have to wait and see until more concrete details emerge.
