Atomic Planet Entertainment Win Two Awards

Middlesbrough, 2nd April 2004 – Atomic Planet Entertainment (APE) Limited, based in Middlesbrough, are proud to announce that they have won two awards in the prestigious annual North East Business Awards for the Tees Valley.

The ceremony, held at the Tall Trees complex in Yarm on 1st April, saw APE awarded with the Export Award, sponsored by UK Trade and Investment, and the Technology Award, sponsored by Aker Kvaerner. Competition was tough, with many successful local businesses fighting head to head with Atomic Planet.

The studio, which was formed in July 2000 by brothers Darren and Jason Falcus, is responsible for game titles such as Robin Hood: Defender of the Crown on PC and XBox, Mike Tyson Heavyweight Boxing and the forthcoming MegaMan Anniversary Collection for Capcom.

These awards are particularly poignant for Managing Director Darren Falcus, who admits the company has gone through a massive transformation over the past 12 months, including taking on over 30 additional staff and many important projects for international customers. “It is because of our work in the worldwide games arena that we have been recognised for the Export Award,” says Darren. “and our ability to harness the latest technology to create games for all of the latest video game systems brought us recognition for the Technology Award.”

Darren adds “We are incredibly proud of this achievement, and very grateful to a hard-working and professional staff without whom we would not have got this far.”

Atomic Planet will now go on to compete for regional honours at the grand final on 20th May, held at the Hardwick Hall Hotel, Sedgefield.
