Pikmin 2 for 2004. It’s about time

Olimar returns for another RTS adventure.

Delayed by six months, Miyamoto’s pet project follow-up to Pikmin won’t see the light of day in the UK until sometime around June 2004. It’s a long and frustrating wait for many, but as ever, we wait with bated breath for the next outing of Nintendo’s seminal RTS.

Details are still relatively scarce at present, but as the previously released screenshots and accompanying blurb will attest, Pikmin 2 will boast several fetching additions. For starters, several new colours of Pikmin will be offered, including purple and white, but their abilities remain secret for the time being. We also know that Olimar will be accompanied by a second Pikmin ‘herder’ (still unnamed) for the sequel. This doesn’t affect the single-player a great deal, but it does mean that Nintendo has included the much-needed multiplayer game for this outing. Both competitive and co-operative gameplay is likely to be included, but nothing is certain.

And that’s all we know. We’ll have more in the coming months on all things Pikmin. It’s one of Nintendo’s biggest in-house offerings of 2004 - it’s just a shame we have to wait so long to play it.
