In amazing news breaking this morning, fabled ex-Nintendo boss Hiroshi Yamauchi has thrown a significant sum of money behind a new gaming venture.
A report in the Kyoto Journal states that Yamauchi, famed for his bullish, often destructive and overbearing stance against SquareSoft over the Final Fantasy VII fiasco, is planning to throw a significant amount of his own personal fortune behind a trading card venture.
Specifically, according to the KJ report, mirrored by GameSpot, Yamauchi will invest around $9.1 million into the Ogura Hyakunin Isshu project, a foundation protecting an anthology of ancient card games and Japanese poems from the 7th century.
Yamauchi, Kyoto born and bred, said, “When thinking about Kyoto, I felt we need more tourism attractions. The Ogura Hyakunin Isshu Project has a wonderful vision, so I decided to give it my full support."
It is believed that Yamauchi will push a videogame incarnation of the ancient card game, either with Nintendo or another Japanese developer.
