Midway Games Ltd. (NYSE: MWY) today announced Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy, an innovative action game that features extensive Psi (mind) powers. Scheduled for release in Summer 2004 on the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system and the Xbox video game system from Microsoft, Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy is an original, action game experience that tests the player's ultimate weapon- the mind.
"The variety of wide-ranging Psi powers used in Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy offers a fresh, exciting take on the action genre," said Matt Broughton, European Marketing Director, Midway. "The game strategically integrates Psionic powers and weapons combat, opening up creative new ways for players to experience the game."
Formerly known as ESPionage, Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy is set in a near-future environment dominated by technology and order. The action-packed gameplay is an amalgam of Psi powers and weapons combat. Players take on the role of Nick Scryer, an elite American Psi-Operative soldier who must combat The Movement, a fierce terrorist organization set to overthrow world order. Scryer must fight a deadly horde of brainwashed super soldiers by using his Psionic powers including - Telekinesis (lift and throw people and items using mental powers), Pyrokinesis (throw walls of fire), Mind Control (take control of another character's body) and many more. The only way for Scryer to stop The Movement and its Psi agents is to use his psionic powers and beat them at their own "mind game."
Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy features a non-linear, open-ended game design, challenging players to use different powers and tactics to complete a specific task. During the action-packed gameplay, players will encounter enemies with sophisticated AI, forcing them to utilize their Psionic abilities in a strategic manner. As players proceed through the eight massive and detailed levels, they will go head-to-head against six different bosses, each with their own specialty Psi power. Only as Scryer's mysterious past is unveiled, including his connection to The Movement's leader, does he begin to realize the potential of his awakening psionic abilities.
