Eidos developer breakdown confirmed

As we reported months ago, Eidos has been unable to maintain relationships with Sports Interactive of Championship Manager fame and Free Radical Design, the acclaimed development studio behind the awesome TimeSplitters series.

We revealed back in May that Eidos was struggling to strike a deal with Free Radical that would suit both parties. As FRD's next project is already confirmed for publication with Activision, this leaves the future of TimeSplitters up in the air somewhat. Free Radical owns the intellectual property rights to TS outright, so undoubtedly the series will crop up again in the not too distant future.

However, the situation is somewhat different with Championship Manager. As we revealed earlier this year, developer Sports Interactive was unable to come to an agreement with Eidos. As Eidos owns the Championship Manager IP, insiders thought that the publisher was being far too bolshy with developer Sports Interactive. And this being the case, the two have parted company.

Eidos plans to develop a new version of Championship Manager either internally or with another third party.

This news will no doubt compound Eidos’ escalating reputation as being unable to manage and maintain relationships with its publishing partners, after the development debacle that was Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness.

We’ll bring you updates on TimeSplitters, Sports Interactive, Free Radical and Eidos as they break.
